Will there be a piano at the venue?

Yes. There is a grand piano at the British International School of Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) Auditorium.

 

Do you provide accompanists?

No. You will have to arrange for your own accompanist if you need one. Do ask us if you need recommendations and contact numbers.

 

I will be performing. What should I wear?

Please dress formally – just as you would if you were playing for an audition or a competition or if you were playing in Carnegie Hall in front of 2000 people. Definitely no t-shirts, jeans, sports shoes, sneakers and slippers, please, if you are performing!

 

How long should my piece/song be?

About 10 minutes in total.

 

How many pieces can I play?

Any number, provided they all fit into ten minutes.

 

Can I play my exam/audition/competition piece as a trial run?

Absolutely. That’s one reason why CMA Recitals was set up.

 

I am part of a duet, trio, quartet, quintet, string ensemble, choir. Can we perform?

Definitely, we encourage variety in CMA Recitals and ensembles are always welcome. Get in touch, we’d love to hear you perform.

 

My child is only five. Can she perform?

Yes, CMA Recitals is open to everyone. If you are unsure whether or not you should perform, please ask your teacher’s advice.

 

My day job is in a non-music industry but I play the occasional classical music gig. Can I perform at CMA Recitals?

Definitely. Come along and join in the fun.

Is it free?

Not for performers. There is a minimum donation of RM50 for each performing slot.

But yes, it is free to watch so do bring along all your family and friends.

 

Can I bring my friends and family members?

Bring as many people as you want. Everyone is welcome.

 

I don’t play any instruments and I am not related to any of the performers. Can I come over just to listen?

Certainly. We would be very happy that you do. And don’t forget to bring your friends along.

 

How long will the whole recital last?

Depending on the program, it usually lasts up to 2 hours.

 

I’m a music teacher/I own a music school. Can I distribute my business cards/give feedback to the performers at Open Recital?

No. Let us respect other teachers and keep the event a relaxed and friendly one.
